What's Hudson Up to These Days?

Two words:

MIS-CHIEF

Step One: Look guiltily at mom and dad after being caught greasy-handed in the butter dish.
Step Two: Shrug off those pesky guilty naggings and go back for more.
Step Three: Shove butter in face and enjoy completed task of the night.

Enough said.

The last two pictures are from a few days ago when I spotted a Cute Kid photo contest, and thought maybe I would enter Hudson. But it never really came to be because a) after taking pictures, I realized the lens had been all smudged up, and showed in many of the photos and b) the contest was $25 (not that I don't think Hudson is $25 cute, it's just that the frugal side definitely won out that day). I still might enter though - his cuteness definitely deserves to be shared (plus a boost in the old college fund can't hurt)!

Anyways, yes, the boy is full of mischief these days. He is BUSY to say the least. Sometimes it can be a challenge and I find myself erring on the impatient side, especially when in the span of 14.5 seconds he manages to throw the car keys in the toilet, scribble on the floor with a pen, rip open a giant bag of flour and sprinkle the stuff all over the kitchen, and sneak into the fridge to nab a huge (and eventually sticky and smushed) bunch of grapes. Okay, maybe all those things didn't happen in sequence, but they did occur at one time or another, and it definitely wouldn't be an unusual day for that all to happen! But then there are other days that I can't help but laugh at his sweet, baby antics, and know that soon they'll be replaced by the next stage of his little boy years.
Lately he has very vocal, learning and repeating words that I didn't think possible. Yesterday I came home from work, and after an evening of being watched by his grandparents, he picked up the phrase, "Get you, get you, get you" (in instances of being chased). He also just learned how to walk backwards (hilarious!) and shuffle sideways (even more hilarious!) and he also does this crazy walk where he's hunched over with his hands on his behind, like an old man with an arthritic back.
I am not a fan of his recent tantrums, though. The other night he had a giant fit after I took the car keys away from him, screaming at me and smashing his face on the floor, which he  tends to do when he's at his most angry. I decided I would just plunk him on the grass (we were at the back door), and let him cry for a bit, not wanting to give him too much attention, but also giving his poor face a soft landing. Well, as soon as he was on the grass, he made a beeline for the cement pad. So I tried the living room rug. But he found the coffee table, So I finally put him in his room and shut the door (screaming was intensifying at this point). But he found his door. Why does he want to hurt himself like that when he's mad? Is it an attention thing? What is the best way to gently discipline a one-year-old? Time-outs are useless at this young of an age. Reasoning is out of the question. Anyways - this is what we're trying to work on right now, and find the best way to go about this.
Otherwise - Hudson is healthy, generally happy, sweet, silly, and destructive. Sounds like a growing boy to me!
