Here are a few of the things I've been having fun creating these past couple of weeks:
I'm not sure what inspired me to get into the whole homemade thing this year, but I've enjoyed it quite a bit! These are all my first attempts at things like clay...mixed media art...so they're not as "perfect" as I would like, but I plan to continue with some of it - I find it very therapeutic, and is fulfilling that part of me that has always LOVED to create.
Also, it is helping me ease into Christmas this year! I have always enjoyed Christmas, but I wanted to keep my anxiety in check by not packing too much stuff into my schedule, and instead just focusing on what is important. Not to say that I haven't been watching Christmas movies every other day (where oh where are my sisters for National Lampoons may I ask?), calling around for baker's ammonia required for grandma Klassen's peppermint cookies, and packing boxes of food and gifts for families that don't have as much as some of us do - but I want to take a deep breath and remember what this is all for. We're celebrating something glorious, and mysterious, and just all around awesome. Christ came to the earth. I am trying my hardest to put my anxieties aside (it's hard when you have family members hurting way across the country, grandparents that aren't well, etc.), and remember that simple fact.
P.S. If you're interested, here is a link to a tutorial for the clay bird ornaments from the pictures:

Lovely creations! Didn't know you had an inner crafter - very neat. Are you guys sticking around for the whole holiday season?
ReplyDeleteThere really is something magical about Immanuel...God with us. Thanks for the reminder to sit with that tonight.
Ooh, thanks Sabrina! Yeah, we're out here for Christmas this year - which is okay. It feels more like our actual first Christmas as a family!
ReplyDeleteAnd the name Immanuel has always struck a chord with me as well, so when I did my art piece I knew it would need to be in there.
Love those bird! I was wondering where you bought such nice ornaments! You are so talented!! Love the picture too.
