the zoo

[ty]

We took Hudson to the zoo today for the first of many, many visits (as the zoo is one of our favourite places). He seemed to enjoy it... in reality he slept through the entire thing.

I didn't have my whiteboard marker with me or else I would have added his name to the list.

I told Stefanie that it would be funny to get a picture of her feeding Hudson in front of the sign. Apparently she did not find quite so much humor in it.

Really all of our pictures of any trip to any zoo are always the same. This is the classic shot of Stefanie chasing after one of the stray peacocks, then there are the pictures of Stefanie's favourite animal (the camel) and then mine (penguins or zebras) and then always a picture of the flamingos for Hailey.

The zebras. With Mr. Vulture quietly waiting to the left for one of the zebras to collapse from heat exhaustion.
Stefanie's enthusiasm for chasing stray animals quickly turned sour after an encounter with this gopher. She went over to try and scare it but to her surprise he did not even blink as she approached, but rather placed his mouth around one of her toes (not joking). Stefanie shrieked and ran away at which point the gopher aggressively chased after her. Stef ran behind me, and with the gopher still in hot pursuit of my wife, I swiftly kicked it in the face sending it airborne and spiraling onto the grass. I wasn't proud of what I did, but I also was not up for a trip to the doctor's office to have Stefanie checked out for any communicable diseases.
Flamingo picture for Hailey.

Later that evening we decided to see if Hudson would be at all interested in using a bottle. Was he ever interested... Stefanie could barely get the camera quick enough. He pounded back 50 cc of milk in about 15 seconds. Is that good? I don't know, but it seemed really fast. And the point is that our question was answered, yes, he is ok with using a bottle. With a little bit of strategizing I'm hoping to get Stefanie a full night sleep before we leave for B.C. at the beginning of August.

I should mention that the bottle thing is also a trial for the trip to BC, so I can feed Hudson while on the road. That way we would only have to stop for a few minutes to change and cuddle him, rather than the 45 minutes - 1 1/2 hours it sometimes takes him to get a proper feed in. The bottles are actually made to simulate breast feeding, so I'm hoping there is no confusion on his part when I have to switch him back to momma. Pumping is a little strange, but worth it! And I'm not going to lie, more than 2 hours of consecutive sleep is sounding awfully tempting right about now.

  1. ahhhh HAHA! First of all, you didn't have your white board marker with you this time? What is your PROBLEM? Not like you at all...

You're right, zoo pictures are always kinda the same. Although you guys got creative on one of the camel pics, never seen that arm curve thing before.

Hailey will (once again) love the flamingo pic. I'll show it to her when she wakes up.

AND, finally. Way to go little dude on guzzling the milk out of the bottle. Of course he did fine with it, he's the smartest baby I know. Stef deserves a full nights sleep by now, so I really hope you can make that happen....good luck! You guys are doing great :) xoxo

  4. I love coming to your blog and reading about your adventures. Laughing at the gopher story. Next time we meet you'll have to hear about me(8 months preggers) being chased by a praire chicken while camping. They hiss and it was uncool. Sadly my man was too busy laughing to help me! Take care you guys.
