Abednego

Meet Hudson's newest and cuddliest friend, Abednego.

Last Wednesday, at AWANA, a couple of the girls from the Roots of Empathy class (we explained this - right?) at Rosenort school came over to say hi to me, and, as usual when I see any one of the kids from this class (including the boys - especially the boys, actually!), asked how Hudson was doing. I told them that Hudson was happy because he was at home being watched by his grandma, but he also wasn't feeling very well because he had a cold. One of the girls (Ava) expressed her concern for him, and told me that she was going to be praying for him to get better, because in her words, "sometimes God answers my prayers." How awesome is that?
Then on Friday (snow day!), we had a knock at the door. We opened it, and to our surprise, there was Ava, her mom,  her little sister, and a very adorable little stuffed elephant in her arms.
"Ava knew Hudson was sick, and so when we were at Superstore, she asked if we could get him something to make him feel better, " her mom explained.
Again - how awesome is that? I love when anyone shows care and concern for my baby, but to know that a girl her age already wants to show compassion for another human being is astounding.
I think the Roots of Empathy program is really a very good idea. It is clearly doing just what it's name says. As I mentioned before, the kids in that grade 2/3 class are often asking how Hudson is doing, in places outside the school, and when we make our once a month trips to their class, they always preface any comment on "what's new with Hudson this month" with, "First of all, he's much cuter now!"
Anyways, now Abednego is part of our family, and I can just hear Hudson stumbling over that name in the future (likely choosing a simpler version like "Benny"), as he requests a favorite stuffed animal to sleep with at night time.
