If any of you are following my brother-in-law's blog
http://icanmakeitmyself.blogspot.ca/ (blogblogblogblogblog - sorry B, just couldn't resist saying your favorite word a few times!), Brandon's Workbench, then you'll understand my title. I should say for the record I am making NO attempt to show up his boat-building skills (yep, he's building his own BOAT!) - but I just want to get some of my summer sewing projects out there, in an attempt to inspire any other DIYers! Maybe one day I will even post a tutorial, seeing as how I usually snatch inspiration from one or three different tutorials out there, and turn it into something that I can be pleased with (not that it always turns out how I want - but trial and error is to be expected for ANY new sewist). I feel like I learned alot about this craft over summer. There has been french seams, sewing with knits, the ins and outs of elastic thread, and lots more. I've actually had the time to practice - which makes a big difference. I badly want to take a sewing class in the fall though, if my schedule allows it. So far it's been 100% self taught - so I think a little guidance will definitely be a huge help.

| Gathered maxi dress - this one turned out on the first try - will be making many more of these! Oh, and the total price on this guy is about $12! |
 |
| Easy and frugal (and I'm hearing a chorus of "Kinda like your dates" from the Friesens right now) |
 |
| Citron summer swing top - my first piece of clothing made from a pattern! It was tough going at first. Halfway through I threatened to cut it up and make a skirt out of it until my common-sense mom walked by and pointed out something in the pattern that I had missed. Mothers are great. |

| Infinity scarf! So easy and fun to make! And lets not forget about snapping pictures of my pretty winking sis to make the project even better. |

Sashed tank dress. I LOVE this one. So quick to make, and confortable to wear.

I've done other stuff too - curtains and a duvet cover for Hudson (well, the cover's almost done), a pencil skirt for me, and three tote bags. I'm enjoying what I'm doing and hope to get better at it (ie. less coins in the swear jar)!
Now go forth and make it yourself! But better ask Brandon about anything boat-related.
Everything looks great Stefanie! You do too :) Hope you guys are doing well and adjusting to your new home. Sending love!
